Creative Engagement As Therapeutic Tool

Based in the NSW Hunter region, Maurie Voisey-Barlin has a special interest in working alongside the clinical & leadership teams in the delivery of his Creative Elder Engagement sessions in Residential Ages Care services. Whilst the focus is on elders living with cognitive decline, participating residents are chosen if they are tending to self isolate, expressing behavioural distress or experiencing anxiety, depression & loneliness.

The process starts by studying personal histories to unlock the character within, to discover their preferred interaction style & then fostering an ongoing relationship in weekly one on one sessions.

His work is about psychosocial health, bringing people back to social engagement & setting goals to collaborate with care teams in achieving this. But above all, harnessing his performance skills, Maurie seeks to create playful, fun, novel & meaningful relationships in sessions that are driven by purpose, inclusion & tailored heart led care.
